Black Panther

Greetings,

Once again, I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we try to plan for an uncertain future. This week, the Platte-Geddes staff will be preparing E-learning lessons and packets for students to complete, in the event of a prolonged closing. Whether or not school is in session next week is really out of our hands.

The administration is extremely proud of how our teachers worked together today. They will be using a variety of delivery methods to share lessons and to communicate with parents and students. We encourage you and your child/children to check your email often as that will be the primary means of communication. There will be no online assignments or homework to be completed this week. However, the teachers will be testing the online platforms to ensure they work properly.

The district will continue to follow recommendations from Governor Noem’s Office, the Department of Health, and the CDC in regards to best cleaning practices, the health and well-being of our students and staff, and other school-based decisions. Although we are trying to limit the number of visitors in the buildings, both the elementary and high school will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday so students can pick up textbooks, computers, etc… Deeper cleaning will take place on Wednesday- Friday of this week. When the cleaning is completed, building access will be extremely limited

Once we receive more information from the Department of Education, we will be able to roll out a more detailed plan. I’m not optimistic that school will be back in session next week. When we receive the official word, we will continue to communicate with you. We will set up times for parents to pick up packets for elementary students and you will see more online information for middle school and high school students. If necessary, we will set up drop off and pick up points for homework.

If families are in need of meals, please contact the school. We have a plan in place to provide breakfast and lunch each day. If you do not have internet or a wifi connection in your home, the district will work with you to provide internet access. As we navigate these uncharted waters, it will take a team effort to meet everyone’s needs. We are in this together.

If you have questions or we can provide assistance, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your continued support and for making the Platte-Geddes School District a great place to learn, work, and grow.

Respectfully,

Joel Bailey
