Parents/Guardian,
We respectfully ask that you review the elementary student drop off/pick up procedures.
Morning Drop Off
BUS - The bus will leave Geddes from the grocery store at 7:15 every morning. If possible, let the bus driver know if you will not be riding the bus. BE ON TIME! THE BUS WILL LEAVE ON TIME. All students who ride the bus will be dropped off in Platte on the north side of the elementary school. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the season in case the bus would have trouble and students would be out in the elements
VEHICLE - When dropping off your child, use the drop off lane on the EAST side of Iowa Ave. Do not drop your student off if you are driving south on Iowa Ave. The purpose of the drop off lane is to keep kids from having to cross the street. Drop off lanes are on the west and north sides of the elementary building. We have provided a Parking Map at the end of the handbook to provide further clarification. Please refrain from parking in the drop off lanes to walk your child up to the playground.
BICYCLE - Students may ride bicycles to school. Upon arrival, students are to place their bicycles into the bike racks. They are not allowed to ride bicycles on the playground before, after, or during school hours. Students are not allowed to play with another student’s bicycle
Afternoon Pick Up
Students should be picked up promptly after school at 3:33pm. There will be a staggered dismissal times starting with Kinder at 3:28pm. There is no playground supervision after 3:40pm and 2:20pm on Fridays. The bus will leave Platte from the north side of the elementary at 3:45pm. Students will be dropped off in Geddes at the grocery store. Iowa Ave & 4th Street are one-way streets during dismissal time. You are able to proceed north on Iowa Ave & east on 4th Street. The designated one-way area is only part of the street that is alongside the school. There will be blockades placed on the street to prevent anyone from driving south on Iowa and west on 4th Street.
For dismissal parking, the first two rows of the new parking lot will be available along 4th Street as well as parking parallel to the elementary curb facing north. Pull your vehicle as far ahead in the pick-up lane as possible and stay in your vehicle. Do not park in designated handicap parking areas, unless you are authorized to do so. If you child needs to cross the street to get to you in the parking lot, a crossing guard will guide them safely across the street in the available crosswalks. Once your child reaches the parking lot, please beware of other cars in the parking lot.
We would appreciate you having a conversation with your child about the dismissal. These changes were made to avoid children from running out into the street. Please refer to the Dismissal Map on the next page if you need a visual clarification. Your cooperation in this matter will be sincerely appreciated and will help make our school a safer and happier place for your child.
