A recent article in the local newspaper provided a summary of the Platte-Geddes School District’s special board meeting held to discuss the long-term facility needs of our district. We appreciate the paper’s effort to inform the public and highlight the importance of community engagement.
However, we recognize that some portions of the article may have created questions or confusion. To ensure that all taxpayers have the most accurate information, the district would like to offer the following clarifications.
There are only two phases to the project — Phase 1 and Phase 2: The newspaper article referenced a “Phase 3,” which may have caused confusion. The district would like to clarify that there is NO Phase 3.
Phase 1 (NO tax increase): Wrestling room, weight room, locker rooms, training area, storage, and mechanical room financed through Capital Outlay Certificates.
Phase 2 (Requires a bond): New middle/high school, competition gym, commons area including a cafetorium for plays and concerts, and additional parking.
Phase 1 will not raise taxes: Phase 1 can proceed without a bond vote and will not increase taxes for anyone in the Platte-Geddes School District.
Phase 2 will only occur if a bond is approved: Phase 2 will move forward only if voters approve a bond election, projected for March 3, 2026, requiring 60% approval. (To be determined)
Meeting was the first of many opportunities for input: The district will continue to hold multiple public meetings to gather feedback, share updates, and answer questions.
All cost figures are preliminary estimates: Figures discussed during the meeting are early projections. Final numbers will depend on design, CMaR input, and competitive bids.
Enrollment remains steady: District enrollment has held steady around 500 students, and elementary numbers project continued stability.
Green space and playground access remain strong: The proposed design preserves ample green space for elementary students, and the playground walk will increase only slightly.
Landowner questions are normal at this stage: Questions about drainage, access, and construction impacts are standard during early planning and will be addressed in design development.
Commitment to transparency: The district will continue sharing accurate information and seeking public feedback before decisions are made.
In closing: We thank our community for their continued involvement and encourage everyone to stay engaged and attend future meetings.
