Platte-Geddes School District recently hosted a valuable presentation focused on protecting students from online exploitation and helping families navigate today’s digital world.
On Monday, presenters Mary Beth Holzwarth, Human Trafficking Coordinator and Analyst for the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and Doris Cardwell, Executive Director of South Dakota Kids Belong, met with elementary students to share age-appropriate information on online safety. On Tuesday, they continued their work with middle school and high school students, discussing online tactics used by predators, how to recognize and report exploitation, and ways students can protect themselves online.
The district also hosted a parent and community presentation Monday evening at the Platte-Geddes High School Gym. The session focused on increasing awareness of the challenges children face online and provided practical strategies for talking with kids about staying safe in digital spaces.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all parents and community members who attended the evening presentation, as well as to our presenters and community partners for their commitment to safeguarding South Dakota’s youth. Opportunities like this are essential in helping keep our students informed, supported, and safe.
