Happy Halloween from Platte Geddes Elementary! We hope you have a wonderful time this weekend; and we thank all of you for bringing the JOY to school today!

Maverick Maydew was nominated for the Good News Call by Mrs. Dewet. Mrs. Dewet has noticed that Maverick comes to the library every day for reading interventions ready to work. Maverick works hard staying focused and taking his time to always do his very best work. Most days, Maverick is the last one to leave the library because he walks around every table making sure all the chairs are pushed in for the next group of students. Thank you, Maverick for being ready to work hard each and every day and for helping me keep the library in tip top shape. Maverick, we appreciate your kindness, thoughtfulness, and your help in school. Thanks for being such a great kiddo!
Dear Platte Geddes Elementary Parents;
Governor Noem Announces K-12 Connect
Governor Kristi Noem has announced the launch of K-12 Connect, a program to provide internet service at no cost to eligible K-12 students in their homes for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
Eligible households will receive a letter indicating eligibility and identifying a telecommunications company to call to access free internet service through K-12 Connect. Letters were mailed October 26. To enroll, eligible households must call the telecommunications company noted in their letter to set up service. Providers will install the necessary equipment on a first-come, first-serve basis. Internet service will be provided through June 30, 2021. After that time, the household must return the equipment to the provider or continue services at the household's expense.
Eligible households must meet all of the following requirements:
Have at least one student currently enrolled in an accredited South Dakota K-12 school; and
Must meet the income eligibility guidelines for the free and reduced school lunch program; and
The household must not have been subscribed to a fixed broadband internet service as of July 1, 2020.
Enrollment closes Nov. 20, 2020. K-12 Connect is a partnership of the South Dakota Governor’s Office, Bureau of Information and Telecommunications, Department of Education, and participating telecommunications companies.

Just a couple of reminders of upcoming events at Platte Geddes Elementary.....
*There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 23, 2020 due to staff development for our teachers.
*We will celebrate HALLOWEEN on Friday, October 30, 2020. Your child's classroom teacher will be sending specific party and costume information. We request that students do not bring "community treats" for the entire classroom this year and only bring a drink and snack for themselves. Thank you.
This Good News Call goes out to Harbour Wallace! Harbour was nominated by Mrs. Gloria Kok. This morning Harbour noticed a student that was having a tough morning and didn't want to go outside for recess. Harbour took the time to go over and help the student get their hat and mittens on to go outside. He encouraged the student to come outside with him and play, and it worked. Thank you Harbour for taking the time to notice that another student wasn't having a great day and for helping out a friend that needed a little boost. Way to go Harbour!! We are proud of you and we appreciate the kindness shown to others.

We have another Good News Call going out this week to Merrick Kimball. Merrick was nominated for the Good News Call by his teacher, Mrs. Nicole DeVries. Merrick was caught helping another student stack the chairs at her table at the end of the day. The other kids at her table were gone, so he noticed that she needed some help and he went right over to help her. Thank you Merrick for watching out for the other students in our class and for taking the initiative to help, even if no one told you to! Keep up the great work Merrick!

Aren't these two the cutest littles you've seen all day? 😊😊❤️❤️
Jacoby Severson and Bowen Michael were nominated for the Good News Call by Mrs. Sandy DuFrain. Jacoby and Bowen noticed a hole in the playground, and they took the "initiative" (our word of the week....) to fill the hole with rocks so that no one would step in it and get hurt. Their act of kindness and respect for others was noticed by Mrs. Sandy DuFrain. Bowen and Jacoby, thank you for modeling our word of the week "initiative" and for noticing a potential problem for others and helping us take care of it. We appreciate your very KIND and RESPECTFUL act. And we LOVE your beautiful smiles and the happiness you bring to our school each and every day! Thanks for being such great kiddos!
We regret to inform you that the home Cheer/Dance Competition scheduled for Saturday, October 17 has been canceled due to COVID concerns.

Lenlee Mills was nominated for the Good News Call by Mrs. Knecht. Lenlee offers to assist Mrs. Knecht with lunchroom duties such as wiping tables and cleaning up messes almost every day. Today, Lenlee helped several small children carry the pumpkins they won to their classrooms. She noticed that the pumpkins were way to heavy for the little kids and she came back to the multi-purpose room no fewer than 4 times to carry pumpkins for those students. Lenlee is a happy helper. She notices little jobs that need to be done and she happily offers to assist in completing them. Her kindness to others is noticed and appreciated. Thank you Lenlee for the help and kindness, and for being such a great example to others.
Greetings Platte Geddes Elementary Parents;
We will be hosting our annual flu shot clinic for students and staff members on Monday, October 12, 2020. We host this flu shot clinic in coordination with our local Platte Avera Medical Clinic. Please read the letter below and fill out the attached document prior to the flu clinic. Students and staff members receiving a flu shot will be required to wear a mask while they receive their shot. The school will have masks available for anyone in need.
Dear Parents:
The Platte Medical Clinic offers seasonal influenza vaccine for children through 18 years. Influenza vaccination helps protect children from the flu and its complications and decreases the spread of influenza in the community, as children are often a great transport mechanism of the disease to adults and other children.
The CDC believes it’s likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both be spreading this fall and winter. In this context, getting a flu vaccine will be more important than ever. The CDC recommends that all people 6 months and older get a yearly flu vaccine.
In an effort to provide vaccinations conveniently, the Platte Medical Clinic will provide vaccines at the Platte-Geddes School on October 12. We will again be using preservative-free vaccine for all children's vaccinations this year.
If you would like your child to receive the influenza vaccine on October 12:
Please review the attached vaccine information statement carefully. This is yours to keep; you do not need to return it to the school.
Complete the consent form and return it to the school by October 12.
The Platte Medical Clinic now bills insurance for influenza vaccine.
Please include a copy of your insurance card with the consent, if possible. If you are unable to include a copy of the card, please write the insurance number and the name and birthdate of the policyholder on the consent form.
If your health insurance does not cover the vaccine at 100%, please check the line marked "health insurance does not pay for vaccines.” If you do not check this line and your insurance does not cover the vaccine at 100%, you will receive a bill for the vaccine or co-pay. The total cost is $40.00
If your child does not have insurance coverage, vaccine is available at no cost for your child through a federal vaccine program.
If you have any questions please contact the Platte Medical Clinic at 605-337-1501. Thank you in advance for your help in keeping your child healthy through this challenging year!
Corbin Bogenhagen was nominated for the "Good News Call" by our administrative assistant, Ember Bartles. Ember has noticed that Corbin is extremely helpful in the lunchroom. He has been observed picking up food that has fallen on the floor, even when it is not his own food to pick up. Corbin has also been observed on multiple occasions picking up garbage from the lunchroom floor, even when the garbage is not his to pick up. He is a student who sees what needs to be done, and then he does the job! He lets other students go ahead of him in line when they are putting in their lunch numbers, getting seconds, and chips or a cookie. His classroom teacher, Mrs. Nicole DeVries agrees that Corbin is a great kid who is very deserving of the Good News Call. Thank you Corbin for being a great example of the Panther Way.
The high school volleyball match scheduled for Thursday against Lyman has been cancelled. The volleyball team will now be traveling to Canistota. The junior varsity game begins at 6:15, with the varsity game to follow.
The JV and junior high football games scheduled for tomorrow at Lyman have been canceled. A junior high game has been scheduled with TDA-AC/DC in Platte with a 4:30 start. There will not be a JV game.
