Our second graders spent a day at the Geddes Park completing their PBL project. They planted succulents, painted, raked, cleaned, planted their garden veggies, and added garbage can holders for the park garbages. The park turned out looking AMAZING! They would like to thank the parents, grandparents, volunteers, and the Platte-Geddes High School Shop Class for their help and partnership in the project.

Jase Griesse was nominated for the Good News Call by his classroom teacher, Mrs. Trisha Frandsen. Mrs. Frandsen reported that Jase is always a helper to his friends and classmates in need. He often stops what he’s doing and pulls his chair up next to his classmates that need a hand and gives them the assurance or help they need. The other students love and appreciate Jase's kindness toward everyone; and they notice the special hand he gives to others. Jase is observed to be so kind and compassionate to others with a huge heart and always willing to help anyone! Thank you, Jase, for modeling the Panther Way Expectation of Kindness to others.

The Good News Call goes out this week to Ryker Reddick. Ryker was caught doing a “Random Act of Kindness” for another student. That student will never know this kindness came from him. Ryker set up a special gift, and asked his classmates to join him in thinking of and praying for someone in need. His act of kindness was a true gift, given from the heart, that will never be able to be repaid by the recipient. Thank you, Ryker for the thoughtfulness, kindness, and for thinking of others.

Dear Parent or Guardian: During the week of April 25-29, 2022, students in grades 3-5 will take the state assessment in (a) English Language Arts and (b) Mathematics. Students in grade 5 will take the state assessment in (c) Science. The purpose of this letter is to help in your understanding of the assessment, as well as providing a few ideas for improving your child’s preparedness. The assessments measure student achievement of our state’s standards in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. In addition, score reports will provide information on student performance in the following areas: o English: Reading, writing, listening, & research o Math: Concepts and procedures; problem-solving and modeling/data analysis; & communicating reasoning o Science: physical science, life science, and earth & space science The assessments are given through an online computer application and are unique in the way they adapt to a student’s question responses. This is important as it provides questions that are appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude towards testing. These assessments are not timed; however, we provide the following times as estimates of assessment duration: (a) English – 3.5 hours, (b) Math – 3 hours and (c) Science – 1.5 hours. Student grades will not be impacted by their performance on this assessment, however the assessment does serve as a way for the school to analyze how well we are helping students meet the standards. Shortly after the testing period is complete, you will receive a report showing your child’s scores. There is no need to study in preparation for the assessments. We do, however, ask that students try their best and get plenty of rest the night before testing. It is important for students to come to school on test days. Assessment are required, therefore making up a missed assessment leads to less instructional time and a loss of important learning opportunities. This testing is very important for your child and for Platte-Geddes Elementary. Thank you for supporting your child and our school during this assessment period. Please contact us if you have any questions. Sincerely, Jennifer Knecht Elementary Principal
