September Shout Out Winners. These students showed "Magnificent Manners"! We are proud of all of our students for their work on displaying good manners.

Pippa Veurink was nominated for the “Good News Call” by teachers on the recess playground. She was caught quietly playing basketball, rebounding, and assisting a child in need. Pippa is often observed quietly assisting students in need. She doesn’t draw any attention to herself, but quietly assists students who need someone to play with or a rebounder for their basketball game. Pippa shows extreme patience and kindness to all students. Thank you, Pippa, for being a wonderful example of The Panther Way. You are very deserving of the “Good News Call”.

Kaylee Gallagher was nominated for the “Good News Call” by several of her peers on the recess playground. They noticed that Kaylee had stopped doing an activity because she had noticed that another child was playing alone and needed a friend. She immediately went to the child who was alone, and played with her. When on the playground, it is noticeable that Kaylee is kind to others and treats everyone in a welcoming manner. Thank you Kaylee for being so kind and sweet! You are a wonderful example of The Panther Way! And you are very deserving of the “Good News Call”.

Our very own Liv Houdeshell, Grade 3, sang the National Anthem at the Platte-Geddes Varsity Volleyball Game last night. I repeat, Grade 3! Congratulations on a Fantastic job last night! We are proud of YOU, Liv!

Thank you to Ryan Brumbaugh of the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks for coming in and talking to our 4th graders about "Animals of South Dakota." The kids loved the visit and the information.

FYI PANTHER FANS ~ "October3-6, the PGHS Student Council is sponsoring a "Name the Mascot" contest. For $1, students and staff can submit an entry to name our new school panther mascot. We will take entries until school dismisses on Thursday. A prize will be given to the winner."

Teacher Feature: Check out Mr. Daum's explanation of what's happening in shop class:
We first learned Ohm's Law and the electrical power equation. We used these to calculate power loads on different electrical circuits with varying loads (lights, tools, electric motors, etc.). We learned the basics of residential wiring, including some of the codes associated with that type of wiring. Then we framed up six 4'X8' stub walls which we are using to practice wiring techniques. For example, they were asked to wire two outlet boxes, a switch box and light fixture. They nailed on the boxes and drilled the necessary holes to pull the wire needed. They then wired the switch, outlets and light fixture. We are going to be adding other electrical elements, such as GFCI protected outlets and 3-way switches.

Our Platte-Geddes Varsity Football Ballboys! We are proud of our AWESOME ballboys!

The “Good News Call” goes out today to Jessa VanZee. Jessa VanZee was observed in the lunchroom quietly assisting with table cleanup. She didn’t say anything, just picked up a rag and started helping. One of her classmates is absent and she took it upon herself to help us with the lunchroom cleanup. Thank you, Jessa, for quietly helping others and for noticing that we needed a hand today. You are a wonderful example of responsibility and kindness to all of our younger students.

Good News Call
Westley Hunhoff received the “Good News Call” for being a helper to others at school. Westley was observed picking up paper towels and wiping up soap that other students had spilled in the bathroom. He made a special point to stop what he was doing and help other students. Westley is observed to be a happy, friendly, and kind every day at school. Thank you Wes for displaying the Panther Way behaviors of Responsibility and Kindness.
